GDC Akhnoor celebrates NSS Foundation Day.  
 

    

The NSS Unit of GDC,Akhnoor celebrated NSS Foundation day today on 24.09.2015. The Programme was organized by NSS unit of the college under the guidance of Prof. Surinder singh Parihar NSS Programme officer. The Programme started with lightening of the traditional lamp followed by saraswati vandana. The theme of the programme was‚ÄĚ Beti Bachao and Beti Padao‚ÄĚ. On the occasion volunteers actively participated in various activities related to the theme i.e Symposium, Slogan, Writing, Songs etc. In the event of symposium 10 volunteers participated and Deepika Sharma, Riya Sharma, Anju Devi were declared Ist, 2nd and 3rd respectively . In the slogan writing event Roshni Devi, Neha Manhas, Priya Sharma were declared Ist, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Earlier NSS Programme officer Prof. Surinder singh Parihar in his inaugural speech highlites the legacy importance and achievements of the NSS at various levels. He said NSS volunteers can play important in ‚ÄĚ Beti Bachao and Beti Padao‚ÄĚ movement.

Principal of the College Prof. (Dr) S.P.Sharma was the chief guest of the Programme. He in his address asked the students to develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility by applying their education in finding practical solution to individual and community problems. He further stress upon the students to develop themselves the dignity of labour and self-help for the betterment of the society. The judges for the today’s programme were Prof. (Dr) Chander Shekhar, Prof. Tarsem Lal and Prof. Anshu sawhney. Others present on the occasion were Prof. Raj Kumar, Prof. Kuldeep kumar. NSS Day

Akhnoor, 24 September, 2010: Govt Degree College Akhnoor celebrates the NSS Day here today.  The N.S.S. Unit of College organized an impressive function on the occasion in which various speakers highlighted different objectives of  National Service Scheme (N.S.S) ranging from community service, national integration, communal harmony and disaster management to environmental conservation that prepare the students and youth for social well-being.


Prof. Rohini Jamwal, Officer in-charge, NSS Unit of the College briefed about the doctrine and work of NSS to the audience. She said the concept of NSS evolved even before independence by Mahatma Gandhi and after independence by UGC under the headship of Dr. Radhakrishnan and is gradually incorporated in the educational system. On September 24, 1969, the NSS was officially launched by the then Union Education Minister Dr. V.K.R.V. Rao in 37 universities altogether involving some 40,000 volunteers.

Ever since the scheme   expended tremendously and is implemented today with an involvement of more than 2.6 million volunteers spread over in 200 Universities, Colleges, Polytechnics and +2 Systems across the nation.   

¬†Principal of College, Dr. (Mrs.) Kaushal Smotra who presided over the function appreciated the role of NSS unit for involving and preparing the students for ¬†social service and nation building. ¬†She underlined the need of volunteerism and integrity among younger generation for attaining lasting peace and sustainable development. ‚ÄúYou are change makers and future of upcoming generations is in your hands‚ÄĚ she said. Be the agents for social change with a spirit of service above self, she added.¬†¬†

The programme was followed by a cultural programme in which NSS Volunteers sang the patriotic songs. Heads of various Departments, staff members and officers in-charge of NCC and Red Cross Units of college also attended the programme.   Later, a cleanliness drive was organized in which volunteers of NSS while displaying volunteerism cleaned up the college campus.
