Department of Commerce organizes one day workshop on “Financial Literacy Awareness

One day workshop on “Financial Literacy Awareness” has been organized by the Department of Commerce, GDC Akhnoor in collaboration with SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) on 6th Sept, 2017. In this workshop students from Arts and Science stream also participated and about 60 students were present in the workshop. Speaking in the context of workshop Prof. (Dr.) Anil Gupta, Principal GDC Akhnoor highlighted the importance of being aware about the changing economic scenario in today’s world. He also apprised that such type of workshops will enhance the knowledge of students regarding the financial market. The resource person Mr. Raj Dev Singh started with the role of Ministry of Finance in Indian Economy and while focusing on the role he discussed in threadbare the benefits of various schemes launched for savings by Ministry of Finance since the beginning of era of Indian Financial Reforms i.e. in 1991. He focused his lecture on savings under Public Provident Fund (PPF), Gold, Mutual Funds Schemes and Insurance. Besides, highlighting the above mentioned schemes he discussed the impact of Remonetization and introduction of goods and services Tax (GST). At the end of the One Day workshop he also apprised the students about frauds on ATMs and companies like PACL etc. to create awareness and to keep them vigilant. The college faculty namely Prof. Sonia Bhau, Prof. Rahul Gupta, Prof. Jyoti Sharma, Prof. Anshu Sawhney, Prof. Pooja Charak and Prof. Shivani Sharma also attended the workshop.
