GDC Akhnoor Organizes Seminar on Biodiversity Conservation

*Akhnoor, 26 August, 2011*: Govt Degree College Akhnoor organized a seminar on biodiversity conservation here on Thursday. ¬†As part of National Environment Awareness Campaign of World Wide Fund (WWF) to conserve Nature and Centre for Environment Education (CEE), GDC Akhnoor launched an extensive two weeks programme on the theme “Biodiversity Conservation” by organizing a poster competition and seminar on August 24 and 25 respectively. In the seminar, the speakers underlined the current scenario of biodiversity and how its conservation at local, regional and international level could be made possible.

Principal of College, Dr. (Mrs.) Kaushal Smotra who presided over the function appreciated the talent of participants who took part in both poster and speech competitions. She expressed her hopes on youth and students that they will play their active roles in conservation of environment especially the biodiversity by acting locally and thinking globally. Convenor of Programme , Dr. M. Ashaq Malik told that a massive plantation drive in college campus, a rally cum public meeting in the college vicinity, campus cleanliness campaign, and

model making and quiz competition on this theme are other activities of programme in the upcoming weeks. The prizes will be distributed in the final “GREEN Ceremony” scheduled on September 8, he said.

Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prof. Kuldeep Raj Sharma, Prof. Nirloup Kour, Prof. Rajni Bhagat, Prof. Shivani Manchanda, Prof. Sanjay Kotwal, Prof. Neeru Sawhney and Prof. Sapna Sharma. A large number of students especially pursuing environmental and biological studies and staff members were present on the occasion.
